Converting Records
and Tapes to
MD (Mini Disc) and CD (Compact
Disc)
Another Audio Journey
Issues, Information, Operations,
Links, Learnings
(Extensively Revised - March-May,
2002 - Revised Again July 2002)
If you haven't visited this
web page for a while, take another look. There's lot's of new
information.
-
First you agonize over whether
or not to convert your collection of records, cassettes, reel-to-reel
tapes, etc. to some form of digital media. Then you have to decide
which digital media form: CD, MD (Mini Disc), MP3, Computer.
-
What follows here is a perspective
of converting sound recordings to MD (Mini Disc).
-
There is also information here
about future developments in digital recording media.
-
New technology always affords
opportunities for change, but may lead to unintended consequences.
Change will definitely uncover challenges and threats to the current ways
of doing things.
-
Since the perfect technology does
not exist, there will always be trade-offs. Whatever you decide to
do, you will have to figure out what's important to you, and at some point,
stop analyzing and start planning and doing!
-
While I'm still a champion, advocate
and a big user of of MD (MiniDisc) technology, I've also investigated and
invested in a CD burner. I'll share what I've learned about converting
music to CD. I'll also add some discussion about advantages and disadvantages
of both MD and CD.
-
I hope that you will find the
information here useful and that it will help you make your decision.
Have Fun!
Sincerely,
